Collins Street shoeshine operator Neill Martin has come a long way in four years – from being an alcoholic and living on the streets to polishing the shoes of former premiers and prime ministers christian louboutin.
In his own words Mr Martin, 47, has been through hell and with the help of Alcoholics Anonymous, the Salvation Army and the Melbourne Alcohol Recovery Centre he’s been sober and working for the past four years hot christian louboutin.
He said he woke up one day with the thought that one more drunken episode would kill him and was encouraged by Brian Cox from the recovery centre to stop feeling sorry for himself and start earning a living.
“I looked for something that no one else was doing and I thought a shoe shine stand would work,” Mr Martin told AAP christian louboutin shoes.
With the help of a micro-business loan through the Salvation Army Trust, he was able to install glass partitions on the footpath in the Paris end of Collins St to set up his small business.
However, a $2,500 investment in a large market-style umbrella to protect customers from the elements did not pay off when strong winds destroyed it christian shoes.
